Matthew Stevens, CEO
Matt Stevens is Co-Founder & CEO of CrossChasm Technologies, the company that created FleetCarma and MyCarma. He has been involved in the design of over 15 hybrid and electric vehicles, ranging from cars to lunar rovers to stealth snowmobile and now works on making personal fuel economy labels for fleets and individuals looking to pick the best green vehicle for them. Matt holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, is a Julie Payette-NSERC award recipient, was named to Waterloo Region’s Top 40 under 40, is Chairman of Electric Mobility Canada and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo. He is a very bad rock climber.
Matt Stevens is CEO of FleetCarma. FleetCarma is a connected car platform, uniquely capable of supporting electric vehicle adoption and deployment.
Fleets, electric utilities, and leasing companies turn to FleetCarma to ensure EV owners have an excellent ownership experience and that fleets obtain a positive ROI on their EV fleet. More recently, utilities are deploying FleetCarma’s SmartCharge Rewards and SmartCharge Manager solutions to ensure they can support a large number of electric vehicles in their service area.
Matt holds a Ph.D. in Engineering, with a focus on electrified powertrain design and battery degradation. He is a Board member and past Chair of Electric Mobility Canada, is a member of the CANC/IEC Council, and is Canada’s representative on the IEC ahG81 working group focused on electric vehicle and infrastructure standards.
Matt was named to Waterloo’s Top 40 under 40 and in 2018 he received the Al Cormier Award for his contributions to electric mobility in Canada.
Chris Mendes, CTO
As Chief Technology Officer, Chris is responsible for developing CrossChasm’s technology portfolio and defining CrossChasm’s technology product strategy. This includes product development and technology road mapping, patent protection, and system architecture. His technical background is primarily in automotive design, being involved in powertrain systems development on numerous hybrid and electric vehicle programs. Key focus areas are on-vehicle electrical architecture, vehicle networking systems design and security, hardware and firmware design of embedded control systems, and powertrain energy simulation and hybrid design. Prior to CrossChasm, Chris was involved in advanced motor development and control system development. He held controls and simulation roles at Snowbear Inc and Queen’s University. He earned a Masters in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo, where his research focused on hybrid vehicle design and advanced torque control strategies, and co-lead Waterloo’s Alternative Fuels Team in developing a student-designed Fuel Cell Hybrid vehicle for the GM/DOE ChallengeX competition.
Eric Mallia, General Manager
Eric Mallia is the General Manager of FleetCarma and a published author on energy management and green fleet topics in the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessments, Municipal World Magazine, Fleet Maintenance Magazine, and the National Post. His work and research, in partnership with more than 40 organizations, has focused on the implementation of efficiency programs in the transportation sector, including idle reduction policies, driver training initiatives, and electric vehicle deployment. Eric’s contributions to the alternative clean transportation has informed policy and green fleet initiatives in both the private and public sectors and has been presented at conferences and seminars in Canada and the United States. Eric holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
