About our team
We care about the environment and we love electric cars. This is what drives us to make driving clean, easy for everyone. We do this by designing the best solutions for electric utilities to understand and manage electric vehicle charging. We create better experiences for drivers to encourage cost-effective, greener and smarter charging. Together we’ll make it possible to drive and charge clean in a way that makes everyone smile.
Partner Account Manager, Utility Solutions
Mark is a Partner Account Manager at FleetCarma, a division of GEOTAB, and holds more than 7 years of experience in transportation electrification. Mark spends his days working with electric utilities to design and implement managed charging programs for their EV customers. Fascinated by the Internet of Things and connected car technology, Mark is driven to help decarbonize the transportation and electricity sectors through the proliferation of electric vehicles and their optimal integration into the modern smart grid.
I’m fascinated by where technology and sustainability meet,” says Mark. “How emerging technology can solve real world environmental problems and how we can address issues like climate change to improve our quality of life.
Prior to joining FleetCarma, Mark held various roles in the sustainability field with experience in transportation planning and energy management. Mark holds a master’s degree from the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability and a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Business both from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
The role of electric vehicles in a sustainable environment
The transportation sector accounts for the largest proportion of greenhouse gas emissions in North America. In addition to reducing the overall number of vehicles on roadways, transportation electrification represents the single greatest opportunity for transitioning to a sustainable energy future.
The surge in EV adoption brings both challenges and opportunities for many stakeholders. For electric utilities, one of the most significant challenges will be to ensure grid reliability and resiliency with the influx of energy demand coming from EV charging. “Utilities need a turnkey solution to incorporate the addition load,” explains Mark. “They need to be able to manage EV load to maximize grid benefits and therefore will need to engage with their EV customers.” Mark is excited by this challenge and strongly believes that FleetCarma’s SmartCharge Platform can be leveraged by electric utilities and EV owners to create smart and manageable load growth that will deliver benefits to the entire electricity system and all ratepayers.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Mark is self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys craft beer, spending time in the great outdoors, and traveling the world. In addition to cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors, Mark is an avid golfer, and a mediocre pond hockey callup.
