Electric Vehicles are not air conditioners and why their load can’t be viewed the same way
Electric vehicles are not just another appliance on the horizon that will consume more energy. They can generate more demand than a house, their demand moves and their potential adoption rate is still unclear. What makes these challenges even more difficult for someone managing load is that there isn’t one standalone solution that will work for everyone. Every service territory is going to have[…]

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure in Florida
Lying firmly within the hurricane belt, Florida is fully aware of the impacts of climate change. Accordingly, the state has adopted a proactive approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PEVs) and the necessary charging infrastructure. Globally, there are 3.1 million electric vehicles in operation, and this number will rise to at least 125 million by 2030. Although lower battery costs,[…]

Volkswagen Is Bringing 32 ‘Ultra-Speed’ EV Charging Stations to Canada
Sometimes negative press can lead to positive change in the world. That certainly seems to be the case for the car company Volkswagen (VW), which announced last Thursday an expansion of its electric charger network — developed after the 2015 VW emissions scandal — to Canada. As part of its new Electrify Canada initiative, the company will install an initial 32 high-speed charging stations[…]

Will Additional Public Charging Infrastructure Improve EV Adoption?
On the surface, it seems like a strange question to ask; surely more charging infrastructure increases the chance for electric vehicles (EVs) to thrive. There appears to be a fascination of expanding the number of public charging stations that can charge at rapid rates as investment continues to pour into public infrastructure projects. The question this article asks is whether the public infrastructure is[…]

The importance of effective electric vehicle charging management
Electric vehicles are better technology than current ICE vehicles and have the potential to dramatically reduce the amount of pollution from fossil fuels. Despite the fact that electric vehicles may not emit carbon dioxide and other noxious gases when in use, they do present another problem. Demand on the electrical grid. The average electric car uses roughly ten kWh (kilowatt hours) for every fifty to[…]

Are you charging your EV with clean or dirty energy?
It feels like the long tailpipe argument never goes away. Simply put, full life-cycle emissions of electric vehicles (EVs) are no different to that of a conventional vehicle. But, this is no longer the case. Fresh research tells us that 75 percent of people in the US live in places where driving on electricity is cleaner than a 50 MPG gasoline car. In the[…]

Top apps and websites to find EV charging stations
We know that the majority of EV charging happens at home or work. But where do you charge when those places aren’t an option? Gas stations are easy to find and pretty much always front and center. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for the majority of EV charging stations. Many EV drivers turn to their favorite apps or websites to plan their route or[…]

Kilowatt and Kilowatt Hour Explained
***Updated November 30th thanks to great feedback from our readers. As someone new to the electric vehicle (EV) industry, I know working and understanding measurements of energy can be very confusing. To that end, two of the most confusing and misunderstood terms are the kilowatt and kilowatt-hour. These terms are put into action all around us on a daily basis. Your electric bill is[…]

When Can We Expect Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles?
Wireless EV charging has long loomed on the horizon. Fleet managers and consumers alike would rarely if ever think about charging their electric car(s). Since the re-emergence of plug-in electric vehicles in 2010, the promise of wireless charging has loomed along a crowded horizon of exciting “things to come” in clean transportation. Once a wireless standard has been agreed to and carmakers begin to integrate the feature into their lineups, there could come a point where public charge providers all but abandon cords. Within a few of decades, the phrase “plug-in vehicle” could become an artifact of the early vehicle electrification era.
