Nissan Leaf owner uses money saved from charging to help community
I love data. I like to get it, analyze it and use it to tell stories. Most of the time the stories find detailed ways in which fleets can save money by switching to electric vehicles. This post is about someone who used data to tell a really awesome story. Over the last year we’ve had our C5 data logger gathering data for[…]

$5.00 Gas is Coming. Three myths, one fact.
[Canadian readers: the average gas price in Toronto as I write this is 133.5 cents/L. Using the US gallon, that’s $5.05/gallon. By comparison the average price in Atlanta is $3.50/gallon. Since my $5/gallon refers to US gas prices, the proportional Toronto price would be 188.5 cents/L. And about $2/L for you Vancouverites. Please read accordingly.] It was February 28, 2012 . How increasing how far you travel can end up reducing operational costs
Earlier this year we put on a great webinar (now available in a recorded version) that detailed how some fleets we work with found ways to save with electric vehicles. We looked at the data logged from electric vehicles in the real world, and broke down how these vehicles are being used, when they are used, and ways in which fleets can[…]

Where does Canada Stand with Electric Vehicles?
With the barbecues and fireworks of Canada Day behind us, it seems like a good time to take a look at Canada’s status with hybrid and electric vehicles. Electric Vehicles: New Technology, New Taxes
Last year, we wrote a blog post discussing how gas tax revenues were down for a number of reasons. At the federal and some state levels, gas taxes are fixed, and as the fuel efficiency of vehicles increases, less gas is purchased, and tax funds for roads decrease. In order to maintain aging roads and build new infrastructure several state governments have set their[…]

Tesla Logs: The problem with Data vs. User
This week the New York Times published a review of the Tesla Supercharger system and Model S in the Northeast. The article detailed a very frustrating trip, ultimately ending with the car on a flat bed tow truck. Tesla quickly responded with assertions that the story was ‘fake’ and they had data logs to prove it. Yesterday the logs came out, complete with comments[…]

Ontario kicks off New Year by helping Electric Vehicle Drivers Plug-In
The Ontario Government announced today that as of January 1st 2013 it will be offering a rebate for electric vehicle charging stations. The rebate applies to charging stations installed at an EV owner’s home, as well as those installed for fleet use. The rebate offered is $1000, or 50% of the total purchase and installation cost, whichever is lower. The charging station rebate compliments[…]

Innovative Approaches for Heating Electric Vehicles
We’re heading into the time of year when drivers jump into their car and turn on the heater, maybe even letting the engine heat up for a minute or two before committing to grab the ice-cold steering wheel. We thought it would be a good idea to go over heating approaches within EVs and some specific challenges that they face. When conducting the Hot[…]
