EV – Electric Vehicle. Any kind of plug-in electric vehicle, whether that be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or a battery-electric vehicle (BEV).
C2 Device – FleetCarma device developed for collecting data from electric vehicles.
Fuel Efficiency Equivalent, MPGeq, or MPGe – Miles Per Gallon Equivalent. A measure of how far a vehicle can travel electrically on the same amount of energy as contained in 1 gallon of gasoline.
Electric Driving Efficiency, Wh/mile – Watt-hours per mile. A measure of fuel efficiency for battery electric vehicles.
kWh – Kilowatt-hours. A measure of charging energy used.
GHG – The amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a vehicle. Can be emitted either through the direct usage of gasoline in a combustion engine, or fossil fuels used to drive electricity generation which powers an electric vehicle’s battery. Reported as a rate of emissions per mile (g/mi) and as the total savings as compared to a standard gasoline-only vehicle.
The GHG savings in the SmartCharge Rewards dashboard is comparing your vehicle’s CO2eq per mile to a typical passenger vehicle as defined by the EPA:
- A typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.7 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
- This assumes the average gasoline vehicle on the road today has a fuel economy of about 21.6 miles per gallon and drives around 11,400 miles per year. Every gallon of gasoline burned creates about 8,887 grams of CO2.
OBD port – The vehicle’s on-board diagnostics (OBD) port is a standardized connection to the vehicle’s diagnostics system. In this program, the OBD port is the gateway to providing EV owners with access to their vehicle’s data including their personalized driving and charging dashboards through the SmartCharge Rewards™ portal.
Tesla Diagnostic Connector – A proprietary connection to Tesla’s vehicle diagnostics system. In this program, the Tesla Diagnostics Connector is the gateway to providing Tesla owners with access to their vehicle’s data including their personalized driving and charging dashboards through the SmartCharge Rewards™ portal.
SOC – State of Charge. This is reported as a percent of total useable battery capacity.
Battery Health – A quantifiable score indicating your electric vehicle’s battery degradation with respect to storage and power capacity. Reported as a percent, with 100% representing a new battery.
Electric Distance Fraction (%) – The percent of driving distance which is done using the electric battery as opposed to the gasoline engine in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Increasing the electric fraction generally decreases GHG emissions as well as fuel costs.
Auxiliary Load (kWh) – The total energy used by the vehicle’s auxiliary systems (heating, radio, etc.) which is not used to move the vehicle.
Ambient Temperature (F) – The average temperature outside the vehicle while driving.
Smooth Acceleration (%) – The percentage of acceleration events during a trip which were done smoothly enough to avoid significant negative fuel efficiency impacts.
Smooth Braking (%) – The percentage of braking events during a trip which were done smoothly enough to avoid significant negative fuel efficiency impacts.
Badges – Badges will be rewarded on a monthly basis, based upon your charging performance of the previous month per vehicle.
The available badges to earn are:
Eco Driver – Signifies that you are in the top 10% of MPGe for all vehicles in the program
Top Smart-Charger – Signifies that you are in the top 10% of reward earners for all vehicles
Off Peak Charger – Over 80% of your total kWh charging is completed off-peak
Peak Buster – Rewarded for completing 1 month with zero summer-peak kWh charged
Peak Streaker – Rewarded for completing 2 consecutive months with zero summer-peak kWh charged
Super Peak Streaker – Rewarded for completing 3 consecutive months with zero summer peak kWh charged
Ultra Peak Streaker – Rewarded for completing 4 or more consecutive months with zero summer-peak kWh charged
Tree Planter – Signifies an emissions savings of at least 40000g of GHG during the previous month
