What Are the Impacts of Renewables and Electric Vehicles on the Grid?
Despite a challenging political climate in the US, the renewables energy sector is growing. So too is the market for electric vehicles, but while both of these advances will help to mitigate our effects on the environment, what impact will they have on the stability of the grid and what should utilities firms be doing now to prepare themselves for these impacts? In 2016,[…]

How Utilities Are Trying to Keep the Lights On During Severe Weather
It’s hard to imagine life on earth without electricity. In fact, electricity has become so ingrained in our daily lives, that it is pretty much impossible to imagine living without it. Power grid systems, a critical resource for any nation, ensure uninterrupted power supply to keep our homes, workplaces, and gadgets running. One of the major threats to the power grid is, which has[…]

The impact of growing electric vehicle adoption on electric utility grids
The market for electric vehicles (EV) is growing and is expected to reach 3.8 million by 2020. Tesla and other players are expanding the production of electric vehicles to meet the rising demand. The EV models are becoming more affordable as a result, which in turn fuels the adoption even further. The charging infrastructure has been growing along, often supported by local governments. But how will the shift to electric vehicles impact the grid? Are the utilities prepared to accommodate this extra load? What will happen to peak demand? And can the grid benefit from wider electric cars deployment?

Electric Utility led EV incentive programs help grid stability, reduce emissions, manage costs, and provide greater efficiency
The United States has come to realize the benefits offered by cost-saving, emissions-limiting renewable energies such as electric vehicles (EV). EVs, indeed, are the most-tangible, fastest-growing example of renewables’ momentum, offering a multitude of benefits for consumers, businesses, utilities, and the environment. With utilities incentivizing consumers and joining states and the federal government in supporting the rise of EVs, it is important to understand[…]

How Electric Vehicles Provide Relief for Japan’s Delicate Grid
Since the Fukushima crisis, Japan has struggled to balance its grid. So how could the addition of more electricity demand in the form of hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles help? As a highly industrialized, densely populated island nation with limited domestic energy production, it should come as little surprise that Japan has faced energy constraints for more than 50 years. What is impressive[…]
